Facebook weirdness on facebook?

I had 300 friends and on the homepage I always see the same people updating their statuses.Now that I deleted 50 people I see different peoples status more often. Don't tell me that the friends I deleted covered my homepage because I scroll on homepage through 24 hour update period and never seen different people. BUT NOW I DO. So is it possible when you have more friends, you only see certain peoples statuses?
