Surgery scares the crap out of me!?

I want to get surgery for something, but I'm super scared of the whole thing. I've watched surgeries before on TV, and just thinking about them doing that to me while I'm asleep is very scary. And I know that they use anesthesia so you don't feel it, but just the idea...I hate needles, eye drops, anything close to my body I hate so much...how do I get over this fear? My whole life I've been scared of surgery but now I really want it done to fix something, but the fear is killing me but I don't want to live with this(I have a varicocele) and I want it gone so I can stop worrying about it and live my life! I need methods to help me with this, not a response that says "Get over it" or "Just keep thinking to yourself it will be okay." I am scared out of my mind about this. I know that you don't feel pain during or after wards, but just the weirdness of waking up somewhere else after passing out in a different place, knowing that there will be a scar or something or-I'm just scared! Can I hear some of your experiences, too? I need methods on how to get over this as well...
